INFLUENCES FROM ART:
Our ideas were not incredibly influence by art, but there are definitely a lot of connections between our ideas and the pop art movement in terms of our aesthetic and colour scheme. A lot of pop art makes explicit intertextual references, such as Roy Lichtenstein's Look Mikey and Peter Blake's iconic Sgt. Pepper album cover for the Beatles, which we actually intend to reference ourselves.
We also intend to use these sort of bright pastel colours, as well as sticking to primary colours as much as we can (like in Roy Lichtenstein's artworks).
The fashion that has influenced us is a mix of modern pastel fashion and model minimalist fashion. It mixes plain, simple clothes with pastel colours and quirky pieces.
A perfect example of this kind of fashion is the Keith Haring clothing line. Although it is not the exact look we are going for, it perfectly sums up our pop pastel yet simple aesthetic.
The most influential part of culture has been the resurgence in bubblegum pop movement. This incorporates childhood innocence and naivety with undertones of sexuality and adult themes to give off a feeling of entering the adult world. This mostly appeals to young adults who are going through this, which is the target audience for indie pop. Bubble gum pop uses catchy music and fun music videos to appeal to the audience. For example, Sugar Sugar by the Archies and more recently, All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor. These both use pastel pop colours and childlike themes (for example the dolls house in All About That Bass and the man turning into a frog in Sugar Sugar) to represent this childhood naivety, while singing about adult themes. We are looking to use this type of contrast in our music video to appeal to and engage with our target audience.
